#MKMLIFE: TIM CHISALE

As part of one of Cape Town’s illest style collectives (their imagery is on fire!), ToneSociety, Timothy Chisale is also a rapper and music producer. When he’s not styling or dropping the dopest beats, he’s studying at UCT. We gave him some key items from the Markham 2017 Winter edit to style on his own speed and the result can be seen in our latest campaign. We also get the low-down on what drives his style choices.

1. How would you define your style?

I would describe my style as quite relaxed and varied as I’m into a lot of styles.

2. What are your top two must-have items for Winter 2017 and how would you style them?

My two must-have items for winter are definitely a good trench coat and a dope bomber jacket. I would style a bomber on top of a hoodie for one of those cold winter days, with a pair of cropped pants or skinny jeans and a pair of doc martens. The trench coat I would style with slim chinos or trousers with a button up shirt and it would all probably be monotone.

3. Who do you consider a style icon and why?

I consider people like A$AP Rocky, Ian Connor and Kanye West as style icons because they’ve really had a lot of epic style moments over the years that have influenced so many people to want to dress like them or pull off a certain look. This makes them icons I guess.

4. Are you more of a jeans and sweater kind of guy, or chinos and parka?

I’m a chinos and parka kinda guy because it’s a super stylish and timeless look.

5. Tell us about the looks you styled below… where would you wear them and why do you think they work?

Both looks are quite casual but with an edge. The look I styled in the first image would be worn to campus or most places because it’s so comfortable and easy going and would make me look good in most settings I guess. I think it works because the layering came out really nicely and it’s both a simple yet complex look. The second image could be worn to similar places because it’s super laid back and the layering effect of wearing the bomber over the hoodie makes it a great outfit for a cold day.

6. Where are some of your favourite hangouts in Cape Town and why?

Some of my favourite hang-outs are Yours Truly, Waiting Room, the beach (of course), and generally anywhere with a relaxed vibe to it.
