The first sweats were introduced to public in 1920 by Emile Camuset. They were simple knitted grey jersey pants that allowed for athletes to stretch and run comfortably.

Since then, sweatpants have made their way from work wear, to athletes and even featured in movies – “Rocky”, “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Sleepless in Seattle” and even in rom com, “Mean Girls”.

Sweats are made of cotton or polyester, normally in a thicker knit. They are usually quite “baggy” and loose, making them easy to put on and take off; but most importantly, they have flexibility and comfort. In addition, sweat tops and pants, trap less heat than most conventional, lightweight trousers, which may be a disadvantage in some conditions such as cold temperatures and an advantage in others such as body heat-increasing aerobic activities.
