We had a chat with the guys from 3rd World Spectator as they were getting ready for Oppikoppi. They gave us a little insight on each of their personal style and how they would pack for Oppikoppi.

How did you become a part of 3rd World Spectator?

Me and Justin posted an advertisement on the Paul Bothner (a local music shop) website in 2007. Peter replied to the ad as he was also looking for members to join the band, and the rest is history.

Describe your personal style?

Very casual, but with hints of grunge.

Explain the Markham look that you put together?

I like skinny jeans, plain t-shirts, collar shirts, hoodies and leather jackets (my favourite).

How would you pack for Oppikoppi?

2 pairs of shoes. A lot of t-shirts, 3 jackets, 4 pairs of shorts and 4 pairs of jeans.

I will be sorted for hot days and cold nights. I’m taking more than necessary in the case of wet weather.

LOUIS KUHN

Which instrument do you play in the band?

Bass guitar

How did you become a part of 3rd World Spectator?

I joined the band in May 2011, as the band had been looking for a new bassist for a while and we’d known each other for a few years. Everything clicked and I became a permanent member.

Describe your personal style?

Country hipster.

Explain the Markham look that you put together?

Check shirt: I love buttoning up my shirts to the top, and a blue check shirt can work with denim jackets and formal blazers.
Leather boots: I like wearing boots like these during the day and also on stage. I also love boots that get a worn in look after a while.
Suede blazer: Blue suede is very rock ‘n roll.
Skinny chino: It’s a staple of my day-to-day wardrobe and also an item I feel comfortable performing in.
Wayfarer sunglasses: Just to finish off my look.

How would you pack for Oppikoppi?

Sneakers you don’t feel sentimental about, something warm for the evening (a hoodie or a jacket), lots of sunscreen and good vibes and you are set for the weekend!

PETER CRAFFORD

Which instrument do you play in the band?

Vocals, Guitar and Piano.

How did you become a part of 3rd World Spectator?

I started 3rd World Spectator when I was still studying but didn’t seriously pursue my musical career until 2008.  Andre and Justin had just joined the band and we clicked as musicians. From there the band just grew and grew and Elan and Louis joined over the following years.

Describe your personal style?

I like classics, but also items that are edgy and modern.

Explain the Markham look that you put together?

Black blazer: You can never go wrong with a blazer, especially a black one.
Brogue boots: The combo of brogues and boots is pretty awesome, and I like breaking the age old rule of not mixing black and brown in the same outfit.
Skinny chinos: I love skinny jeans and pants. It has become an absolute staple of my everyday wardrobe.
Denim Shirt: I have a whole collection of denim shirts and it’s an item that I believe every guy should have.
Leather gloves: Ryan Gosling made leather gloves look cool in ‘Drive’, so why not.

How would you pack for Oppikoppi?

I’ll be taking an old pair of sneakers, one good skinny jean, a few t-shirts, a jacket, lots of blankets and water.

Blue jeans: A key part of a modern wardrobe.
Suede boots: Perfect for a winter wardrobe and they look great with jeans tucked in as well.
Leather jacket: The vintage, worn-in look just appeals to me.
Check shirt: It goes so well with my beard for that woodcutter look.
Crew neck shirt: Just because it is a classic.

I’d pack one set of clothing because the dirt is going to own me. A cap, comfortable sneakers, a pair of jeans and shorts, a hoodie and a t-shirt and you’re good to go.

I was asked to join about a year and a half ago after the band decided that they wanted to expand their live sound and add the electronic dimension to the live act. Being long time friends with the band members and a cousin to the lead singer, we formed a great union.
